A Mommy and her boys

Playing, diapers, learning diapers, feeding, diapers and growing…one day at a time!

and I’ve been awake for 45 minutes.  Boooo….

Since Harrison sleeps in his big boy bed now, we leave his door unlocked so he can come and get me in the morning.  He usually appears around 7:30 or so.  Well, this morning our tv magically turned itself on at 6:30…I say magically sarcastically.  Harrison came out of his room, turned on the tv and sat down on the couch.  So it was the sound of the tv that woke us up.  Brian wasn’t even up yet!  We look out the door and there he is so proud of himself sitting on the couch.

While I am glad for this new found independence, I’m tired.  Just thought I’d share.

Randomness and pictures November 10, 2007

I have had a lot of interesting thoughts wandering through my mind these last few weeks. If any of you read my post from a while back, you know that we had some second thoughts about moving here after there were two armed robberies at Brian’s store in a two-week time period and one of his recent past employees was murdered in that same time. We aren’t having second thoughts anymore about moving. I love it here. The weather is much more conducive to my migraines. Harrison and I spend a lot of time outside. Actually, we spend a lot of time outside as a family too.

The only thing I really wonder about now is is this REALLY where I want to raise my ever-growing family? We are looking at buying a house soon, and the area we are looking in is a community called “The Acreage” which is just that, you actually get over an acre of land with your house. So you aren’t RIGHT next door to your neighbour and I think I would like that more than here where we are all piled up on top of each other (Calgary anyone?). I miss the small-town feel that Calgary had. I miss my friends. I miss girls night out. I miss a city where most of the people speak English. I’m not racist, but it is hard to function sometimes when people in the stores don’t speak English.

I miss having my family so close. I really do. I am very homesick. I’m sick of being the strong girl that can make it on her own and move away from her family. Somehow I thought that would mean I wouldn’t show emotions. Well, dammit, I miss them. I cry because I miss them. I am sad that Harrison isn’t seeing his cousins all the time. Brian has lots of cousins here, but they aren’t my family. You all know what I mean. I like them, but they just aren’t my brothers and sisters. I am sad that I’m pregnant without my family around. I’m not sad I’m pregnant; I’m extatic that I’m pregnant. I’m sad my family can’t bug me about how big I’m getting. I’m sad that I won’t have my family coming to visit us the day after the baby is born.

Life has changed. I knew it would.

But, I am not trying to whine. I am venting, I guess. My mom has heard me talk about all of this too. I guess we just haven’t been here long enough for me to feel settled. After all, we have moved three times in the last 7 months. I feel unsettled — I guess that is the best word. Thanks for listening to my whining!

How many of you bloggers out there have had VBACs? I am hoping to have one with this baby because I want a very large family and I don’t want to be limited by C-sections. If that happens, which I’ll accept, we will adopt more than anticipated, but I really want a lot of my own children by birth. Just curious…

This is Harrison in the bath tub this morning. He is so funny because he likes to sit right next to the tap and let the water run all of him. Cuteness for everyone to see!

And the last picture is of the dinner I made the other night. The recipe is found here.  I really thought it was going to be good.  It looks better than it was.  It was VERY bland.  I don’t know what I did wrong.  Harrison likes it.

This is how our walk went today… November 9, 2007

We are living in a condo that is on a ‘lake’.  We call it the pond.  Anyway, it is quite big and makes for a pretty good walk for this beached whale.  Well, I thought Harrison and I would walk around it today, you know, get out and do something.  So…I ended up carrying him the whole way.  I think he walked about 10 steps.  So I got my exercise!  Anyway, there was a bench on our walk and he wanted to sit on it.  Then he cried and cried.  That is how our day has been going.  I think he is getting more molars from the looks of it.  Anyway, here is the picture from our walk!

Time flies… November 7, 2007

I was just going through old videos and pictures on the computer of Harrison.  I can’t believe he was so little!  I also can’t believe he was born almost a year and a half ago.  I can hardly believe it.  It seems like it was just yesterday I was checking all of the mommy blogs several times a day to see when all of the babies were born!  These pictures are almost exactly a year apart.  Awww….

Oh, and yes that is a huge bruise on Harrison’s head.  He ran into a railing at a Playmobil park and had a huge goose egg, poor dude!

He did it! November 6, 2007

Harrison made it through his first night in his big boy bed!!!!!!!!!  He actually fell asleep in his playpen and then we moved him about 45 minutes after he fell asleep.  I left my bedroom door open so I could hear him if he needed me.  We checked on him through out the evening before we went to bed and he is a mover.  He was turned all around.  Anyway, he slept until 7 this morning 🙂  So he slept 11 hours in his big boy bed!  WOO HOO!  And he woke up, got out of bed, opened his door (which is what woke me up) and he came into my room and got me!  And yesterday he took his entire nap in his big boy bed too.  He fell asleep on me in the morning (which hasn’t happened since he was an infant) and so I moved him into his big boy bed and he slept there!

This is so exciting for us!  We are making progress.  WOO HOO!

EDIT: To clarify, if you look at the pictures a few posts down you will see his bed.  This is a twin bed.  We have lowered it to the frame on the floor and put up a rail and he stays in it.  He stayed in it again last night.  So far so good.  He still won’t fall asleep in it, but we are taking baby steps!  We weren’t sure he would be ready for it, but he seems to be doing really well.  I didn’t want two cribs when the baby came, and we thought we would try to get him in the big boy bed now in hopes that he will be less likely to revert when the baby gets here.  Just our hopes!

Babies, bats and beds… November 1, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — harrisonandmommy @ 2:51 pm

Yesterday started off with an ultrasound!  We got to see the baby finally!  Yes, it is only one!  He/she was moving all over and the ultrasound tech was having to chase him/her around.  Then, when she needed to get some important measurements, the baby rolled up in a ball and wouldn’t budge.  But we got to see the baby!  They want me to come back in two weeks so they can get the measurements they need.  Brian had the day off so he came with us!  Actually, I threatened his life if he didn’t take the time off to come 🙂 (The picture from the ultrasound isn’t good.  I’ll post pics from the next one)

Then we headed out to the new Ikea that opened two weeks ago.  It is about 45 minutes from us.  We were specifically looking for a big boy bed for Harrison.  And we found one!  We weren’t sure if we were going to put him in it or not, but we decided to try.  So Brian and Harrison put his bed together.  It was cute to watch Harrison helping.  But after we made the bed, Harrison, of course, and Inde, decided that UNDER the bed was where the party was at!  We didn’t get it finished before we had to head out trick or treating, so we finished it afterwards.  Harrison WOULD NOT fall asleep in his new bed.  I figured this would be the case, but thought we would try.  We ended up putting him to sleep in his playpen (crib broke a couple of months ago, new one on the way for the baby).  I then moved him into his bed at about midnight (don’t know why I was still awake).  He slept there until 6:00 this morning when I woke up to him crying.  I went in there and he was sitting in the middle of his room crying — and covered in blood.  (Yes, I feel horrible!)  I still have NO IDEA what he hurt himself on.  He hit his mouth on something and he has two fat lips.  He could have hit it on the side of the bed, but there was no blood there and it didn’t look like he could have hit it there.  Anyway, we are going to get the rails and everything, and see if we can try again.

We went trick or treating with Brian’s cousin’s family around their neighbourhood.  Harrison was going to be Tigger, but we couldn’t keep the costume on him because he was too tall for the costume and he kept popping buttons!  So he was a Zebra who we called Zeebee.  Harrison did good.  Instead of saying “trick or treat” which we tried to get him to say, he would say “please”.  So cute!  He didn’t last long.  He was tired pretty early on.  His bedtime is 7:30 usually and we didn’t even start trick or treating until 7.
